Here are some common questions that we’re asked so we thought it might be helpful to post. Click on any question to expand the answer.

• How much does a website cost?

Similar to ‘how much does a car cost’ or ‘how much does a house cost’ there are several factors that go into pricing a website including what types of features, how many features, how many pages and so on. Some companies try to sell you on preset packages but they are trying to propose the ‘solution’ without first understanding the problem. We believe every client is unique and prefer to listen to your needs and outline the project requirements so we can provide an accurate estimate that is going to be the best solution—and the best value. We understand cost plays a role in your decision process so we make it a point to talk about cost and budget early on.

• How long does it take to develop a website?

Again this can vary depending on the scope of the project, but our general time line is 6-8 weeks. We can adjust our schedules accordingly if we know up front that we’re working against a specific deadline for your project.

• Can I update my own website?

Yes, if you want to update your own website, we build it using a Content Management System (CMS) so you can conveniently add or change text and photos—even video, blog posts and products depending on your requirements. Our CMS of choice is WordPress, one of the most popular open-source CMS solutions. We specialize in custom WordPress sites that are specifically tailored to your needs—not cookie-cutter templates.

Also, we have some clients who prefer to have us update their websites, so we offer monthly maintenance packages for updates as well.

• Are there any ongoing monthly fees?

Only if you choose to have us update your website and sign up for one of our monthly maintenance packages. Also, if you have a third-party solution that we have implemented, such as an email marketing service, some e-commerce providers, web hosting, etc. then there may be fees associated with them. But you would pay any third-party providers directly—we do not mark up those services as a courtesy to you!

• Do you host my website and register my domain name?

No, unlike most agencies, we strongly believe in the client fully owning their domain name—and the hosting being under their own account. We set up all of the technical aspects for you so you don’t have to worry about that. But we have run into countless situations where a client and their former web designer have either parted ways, or they can no longer find them—and thus they have no idea how to access their accounts. Our approach is always to ask, “What is in the best interest of our clients?” We’ve found that to be the driving factor in our many long-term client relationships.

• How do I get my website to rank at the top of Google?

We provide Search Engine Optimization (SEO) services and can get your website ranked at the top of Google and other search engines. We first do extensive keyword research to determine what are the best keyword phrases to target. Then we preform on-site SEO so that your website is highly optimized for those keywords. And then we begin an effective link building strategy that is tailored to your specific needs.

• What types of clients do you work with?

We work will clients across a variety of industries including, but not limited to, construction, manufacturing and health care. Our ideal clients are companies who are looking to take their marketing and branding to a whole new level and establish themselves as leaders in their industry. They’re looking for a partner who will be an extension of their team to bring more focused results to their branding and marketing efforts. Whether you have two employees or two hundred, we provide the first-class service and attention you deserve.

• What is your background and experience?

We have over 14 years experience in branding, print and web design. From magazine publishing to marketing collateral to full e-commerce websites, we have the knowledge, skills and track record to deliver proven results. Neil Brown, Principal and Creative Director, is a member of the Graphic Design Advisory Committee for Surry Community College, as well as a former adjunct instructor in the design program. And we’re members of the Yadkin Valley and Winston-Salem Chambers of Commerce.

• What is expected from me (the client) during the project?

We believe a successful relationship is one where both parties are participants in the process. In order for us to be effective, we need input given and decisions made by our clients along the way. We try to communicate effectively to be sensitive of everyone’s time and attention.

• How do you handle billing?

We require a 50% initial deposit to begin work and the balance due upon completion. With larger projects, we may break it down into thirds instead—with 1/3 initial deposit, 1/3 milestone payment and the balance due upon completion.

• Do you offer any discounts?

We have a slightly lower rate for qualified non-profits. Otherwise, we don’t offer discounts—however we may be able to come up with a solution where we provide less of something (whether number of concepts, specific features or general time) in order to lower the project cost to meet your budget.

• What type of support do you offer?

For websites, we offer 30 days of complimentary support after the website is launched. After that, we provide support either at our standard hourly rate or by a fixed-cost estimate—whichever you prefer.

• Who owns the copyright to work you do for us?

In our project agreement, we assign all rights to you, the client, upon final payment. We realize this is different that the traditional big-agency approach where they retain all ownership and only grant the client limited rights. But we believe that approach is misguided. Our client-friendly approach gives you ownership and control over all work that you pay for. We think that’s just good business for everyone.
